OUR HISTORY

Inma and Kate

The Story of INMA AND KATE
As an international consultant, I always felt a growing desire to explore something more creative alongside my work. That moment came when a former intern from Columbia University, Kate Estabrook, gifted me a handbag. The designer claimed it had been made especially for me, but something about that didn’t sit right with me. Personalization is a word often thrown around, yet the designer didn’t know me at all. This realization inspired me, and just a month later, I began designing handbags that are truly distinct—pieces that reflect individuality and craftsmanship in a way other brands simply don’t.

At first, I began designing and creating to fulfill a need I had carried within me for so long. Every creation and prototype reflects my journey as an entrepreneur, my passion for social issues, and my lifelong commitment to making the planet more sustainable and livable. These designs are full of life—they aim to convey the joy and energy I carry to those who own my pieces, as well as to those who simply see and appreciate them.

had to do something creative"

Initially, I focused on designing, creating prototypes, and testing them. Just three months after the idea for the brand came to me—in February 2015—we were already selling by May, and by July, we had entered the U.S. market. Since then, we have dedicated ourselves to perfecting our designs. Our creations are minimalist, made from sustainable materials, and crafted in Madrid, staying true to the concept of "kilometer zero." From the very beginning, our goal has been, and always will be, to become a top-tier, high-quality brand, helping our community by creating jobs, preserving traditions, and continuing the craftsmanship passed down through generations.

I’ve been creative since I was a child. With any color or material, I always found something to make. In any situation, I see an opportunity to create something new. I remember one day in the workshop, I had designed a prototype, and one of the seamstresses had accidentally sewn the pieces together incorrectly. She wasn’t sure how to fix it or how to tell me. So, I grabbed a pair of scissors, made a few cuts to the stitching in one area, and with just two simple snips, a mistake turned into the Sevilla model. Overall, you could say the inspiration for my bags comes from my ability to take anything and reinvent it, and to seize any situation that presents itself.

If I were to ask myself what sets INMA AND KATE apart from other brands in the market, the first thing I’d say is that our designs are minimalist, incredibly lightweight, practical, and above all, versatile. They can be taken to the beach or to an elegant wedding—they work for every occasion, which is why I call them "Only one—all in one."

Moreover, color is an essential part of the design. For me, vibrant colors are the best way to convey the energy and joy I want people to feel when they carry my bags. Combined with my simple yet elegant style, my designs are truly unique. But what makes my bags stand out the most is that all the production and design are artisanal, handmade, and 100% Spanish—from the leather to the artisans who craft them.

The Circular Economy:

The union between economic growth and environmental care

LA ECONOMÍA CIRCULAR: La unión entre el crecimiento económico y el cuidado medioambiental
Telemadrid , interview with Inma
INMA & KATE collaborates with the circular economy by adhering to the following principles:
  • Optimizing the design through all phases of a product’s life cycle, up to its eventual recycling or reuse.

  • Minimizing the amount of materials through careful pattern-making.

  • Emitting the least possible amount of waste.

  • Saving energy consumption.

  • Using recyclable materials.

  • Avoiding the use of toxic or hazardous materials.

  • Promoting sustainability by using local products.

  • Contributing to the social economy by guaranteeing fair and equitable employment conditions, fostering social integration and equality.

  • Promoting cultural ecology through educational and training measures that support craftsmanship, traditional trades, and local popular culture and traditions.

  • Creating workshops that preserve and revive our long-standing artisanal tradition, while training a new generation of skilled professionals.

OUR FUTURE

Inma with luxury bags

Looking ahead over the next five years, my vision for INMA AND KATE is to increase the brand’s presence at fashion events and runway shows, as well as on radio and television programs, and in business school talks. I seize every opportunity to speak about INMA AND KATE in order to raise the brand’s profile and to raise awareness about the importance of incorporating the circular economy into our lives.

Another priority is improving sales. I envision having exclusive INMA AND KATE boutiques in all of Spain’s major cities, as well as in New York, Tokyo, Paris, Florence, and London. The coming years will be a period of great expansion for us, and we hope you’ll join us on this journey.

The mission of INMA AND KATE is to preserve Spanish craftsmanship, focusing on indigenous materials and establishing a Craftsmen’s Workshop. There are countless talented individuals—many of whom are out of work—who have been connected to sewing or material production, either directly or indirectly. As craftsmen, we must support one another. With your help, we can realize the dream of training a new generation of artisans and keeping this proud tradition alive.

Currently, we are finalizing all the prototypes we’ve created for a brand that is light, youthful, minimalist, and truly without borders. I designed a backpack prototype a year and a half ago, and I’ve been gathering feedback from people to see how best to bring it to life. This backpack is completely unique and unlike anything else on the market. Together with the artisanal workshops we continue to deepen and refine, we aim for the brand to follow new, innovative, and creative paths. That’s why we invite you to join us on this journey. Every bag purchased is a step toward our goals. You can be part of the social and cultural mission of INMA AND KATE.
